Happy Saturday ✨ Today, I want to share with you how you can enjoy your personal style again. Sometimes, it can feel like you’re performing for other people. When you dress up, apply makeup, and go to spend the day at work – sometimes it feels like it’s not for you anymore. It feels like you’re not the one who’s appreciating your ‘look’ the most? Because for a lot of people, the enjoyment of experimenting with your own style and curating a sense of beauty in your fashion has disappeared!
I’m here to say one thing: your body is for you, and you deserve to celebrate all its natural curves and features. You deserve to have fun with the way you dress, and how you present yourself as a result. If you ever feel pressured to look a certain way, make sure you fight back and still maintain that unique sense of you, even when there’s a dress code on your shoulders!
So, with all that in mind, here are some ways to find that sense of enjoyment again, if you’ve been finding it hard recently. Don’t forget to check out my previous post: MY TOP PICKS FOR A SELF-CARE SOLO DATE IN MONTREAL!
How To Enjoy Your Own Style Again

Chuck Out Half Your Wardrobe 👗
Your current wardrobe is probably padded to the brim with tops and bottoms you don’t really like. Whether you bought them for your professional life, or they were gifted to you, or you made an impulse purchase of a style you don’t really like, but was the trend at the time, you own clothes that aren’t for you.
And that means you should chuck out around 50% of your wardrobe. Get rid of everything you don’t really wear outside of an occasion, or anything you don’t like wearing. Put the items up for resale to make a bit of cash back or donate them, but ultimately get them out of your wardrobe. Once you’ve made the space, you can fill it with things you actually want to put on!
Spray on a Scent You Love 🤍
What do you want to smell like? A summer breeze? A vanilla pod? Something woody and a bit ‘masculine’? It’s up to you to put on the perfumes you like! A good perfume completes the look we’re going for, and makes us feel ready to go no matter the weather.
And when you spray some scent on, you’ll be constantly reminded of just how much fun you’ve had getting dressed for the day. After all, you’ll often catch a bit of it from time to time, and it’s likely to bring a smile to your face whenever you do.
Mix and Match, Even if Nothing ‘Fits’ 🌙
Your style might not be as cohesive as some people think it should be. You might also switch from one end of the style scale to another, constantly wearing outfits that seem so far removed from anything else in your wardrobe. And all of this is fine, by the way!
You’re allowed to experiment, and mix and match certain pieces, even if anyone with a trained eye would tell you not to pair them. Because fashion is supposed to be fun, and as long as you think you look good (and you’re happy in what you’re wearing), it really is all that matters.
Add New Colors to Your Makeup Table 💄
The more colors on the makeup table, the more eyeshadow shades and lipstick tones to your name, the more fun the whole concept of being ‘made up’ is going to be. Who wants to wear earthy tones day after day? That can get a bit boring after a while!
I personally love to do neutral looks with a pop of purple in my inner corners or lower lash line. Go bright and bold here, as well as dark and edgy if you like. Just as long as there’s some variation to choose from, you’ll be able to indulge in your own style again.
Experiment with New Styles and Celebrate the Results 🌿
You can enjoy your own style again by experimenting with new styles and celebrating how you look. Yes really! Take pictures for yourself and no one else, or for just a few close friends who you know actually understand you. Celebrate the way you look in outfits you’ve chosen just for you, and even put up a few pictures around your house. It’s not vain, it’s simply fun!
How To Enjoy Your Own Style Again
Your own sense of style is for you. If you want to wear something, do it for you! You don’t have to look like something just to please other people; if you like it, all the power is in your hands. Dress the way you want, have fun with your wardrobe, and a little shopping day, or visit at a thrift store, might just be what you need to remind you of that!
