Happy Wednesday😍! Today, I want to share with you 5 ways to protect your energy. But what does protecting your energy mean exactly? It’s basically preserving your mental and spiritual self from draining situations. Situations that might affect your mood and your well being. To better illustrate this, I want to share with you a personal story. I recently had a mishap at work and even though it was totally fine, I let it consume my mind. I had clients email me insulting me and instead of letting it go, I let it get to me. That’s when I realized that I should better protect myself.

How To Protect Your Energy
Tune in to how you’re feeling ❤️🩹!
The first way you can learn to protect your energy is by tuning in to how you’re feeling, by noticing your emotions and better understand them. I like to do that through journaling or by taking a moment to myself when I go through extreme emotions. In general, journaling helps me understand my triggers, grow as a person and better control my emotions. It’s a way for me to transfer all of my thoughts into a piece of paper and look at them in a more objective way. It also allows me to “let it out” and slow my brain down.
If you don’t know how to start in journaling, I’d highly recommend guided journals. I personally love the ones from Papier.
Set boundaries ✋!
The next way to protect yourself is by setting boundaries. Healthy boundaries are the limits you place around your time, emotions, body, and mental health to stay resilient and protect yourself from being used or drained. They are at the root of a fulfilled, balanced life. Without them, you can quickly lose yourself in your work, relationships, or familial obligations. Your needs are just as important as the next person’s and setting boundaries help you define what you are willing to say “yes” to and what you decide to say “no” to.
Back at my old job, I used to always say yes when my managers wanted me to work extra hours and i didn’t know how to say no. I guess I was scared to upset them but that in return, it would affect me mentally. I didn’t have the time for myself anymore and let’s be honest, I didn’t want to work extra hours. Instead, i wanted to relax, read a book, study or go to the movies.
And look, you’d think I learned from my mistakes but no, I still do that. Not to the same extent, but I still put other people’s needs before mine. I still care too much about other’s people feelings that I rarely say no to things. I am most of the time okay with everything and that is not okay because i tend to forget what is best for me and my mental self. And even though i realize that, it’s easier said than done. Setting boundaries needs practice and I encourage you to start today!
Create a sanctuary 🏡!
The next way you can protect your energy is by creating a sanctuary. Whenever I have a bad day, the one and only place i want to crawl back into is the safe haven I created, my home. My fiancé used to ask me why I would put so much effort and thoughts into the decoration of our place. He loved it but he wanted to know why. And the reason is because by creating a home full of textures, colors and scents that you love, you create a place that you feel safe and calm in. Knowing you have a lovely space to return to at the end of a hectic day will offset a lot of stress and negative energy. So, I created a place where I could paint, cook, relax, watch movies, play, read and overall, feel happy in.
Practice mindfulness 🧘♀️!
A fourth way to protect your energy is by practicing mindfulness on a daily basis. Mindfulness is when your mind is fully attending to what’s happening, to what you’re doing, and to your environment. It’s the basic ability to stay present. And what it does is that it allows you to not overthink, it helps relieve stress and improve your sleep.
Clear Negativity 🤍!
The last way you can protect your energy is by cleansing any negative energy you may have accumulated during the day. You can do that by simply meditating and practicing cleansing breaths. You also could take a hot bath with epsom salts, essential oils and soothing music to help release any tension. Personally, when I feel overwhelmed and need a good energy cleanse, I like to burn incense, take a moment to focus on my breathing and journal. Anything that helps you unwind and recharge is a go. It could be painting, taking a walk, sleeping or cooking. It doesn’t matter, as long as it helps you.
