HOW TO STAY GROUNDED WHEN YOU LIVE IN THE CITY

Happy Wednesday! Today, I am sharing with you 4 ways to stay grounded when you live in the city. Grounding is a way of recharging and clearing out any excess energy from oneself. It’s a way to connect your body to earth and become more present and aware. When you are ungrounded, you may feel off, anxious, unbalanced, disconnected, dizzy or exhausted. Moreover, living in the city can specifically feel overwhelming so in this post, I want to share how you can stay grounded when you are living in a fast-paced and urban space!

Now, let’s get into and don’t forget to check out my previous post: CERAMIDES IN SKINCARE!

Mindful breathing and grounding exercise

Mindful breathing is a pretty basic yet powerful meditation practice that allows you to anchor yourself in the present moment. The idea is to simply focus your attention on your breathing. So, to its natural rhythm, flow and the way it feels on each inhale and exhale. Usually, I like to pair this practice with a grounding exercise in order for me to feel more connected to nature and my surroundings. Here’s a simple grounding exercise you can do:

Carry grounding crystals

If you believe in the power of crystals then you can carry grounding crystals with you in order to feel grounded. Serpentine is actually my favorite as it makes me feel more connected to earth and gives me this feeling of control. Another way you can use a grounding crystal is through meditation and visualization. It goes as follows: Hold a grounding crystal such as a smokey quartz, place your hand on either side of your navel. Envision roots spreading from the crystals to your hips and passing downward through your thighs, knees, ankles and bottom of your feet. Feel the energy connecting you to Earth and protecting you.

Add natural elements to your space

If crystals and grounding exercises are not for you then you can easily feel grounded by adding natural elements, such as plants, to your living space. Not only does it bring life to an apartment but the process of taking care of plants is very relaxing and grounding. You’re taking care of nature, connecting with it through your plants. While this practice is not enough to keep me grounded, I still like to recommend it!

Spend time in nature

The last way you can stay grounded when you live in the city is to spend time in nature. I know that’s a bit contradictory – nature vs. city – but, if you can go to the park, spend time away from your phone, sit on the grass, and enjoy the view, definitely do it! Now, if you have the opportunity, you can go on a road trip with some friends. Last summer, i went camping in a forest and it felt very rewarding. I took this opportunity to disconnect from my phone, touch trees, smell the fresh air, listen to birds and just be closer to nature. As a person who lives in the city, it felt good.

That’s it for today! I hope you enjoyed reading this blogpost. All of these are exercises and practices I personally use as a person who lives in Montreal but they can evidently work for people who live in the countryside too.
