MY 6 GOOD NIGHT HABITS

Happy [late] Yule everyone! Today, I am sharing with you my 6 good night habits, so my tips to get better sleep! Getting a good night’s sleep is extremely important to reduce stress and to give your body adequate rest. Benefits of a good night’s sleep include lowering your blood pressure, regulating your appetite, and improving concentration. It’s great to become more productive and to motivate you during the day. Of course, sleeping is not as easy as I make it seem. Your mind can easily keep you up all night and falling asleep is already a bit of battle on its own. Hence, why I decided to share with you my tips that personally worked on me.

6 Good Night Habits

Eat a light super

The first tip to get a better sleep is to eat a light super. In fact, eating right before bedtime can upset your stomach and make you really uncomfortable while sleeping. Moreover, big meals take longer to digest and lying down directly can be extremely bothering. I’d suggest to eat 2 hours before bedtime or eat something very light.

Unplug

The second tip to get a better sleep is to unplug from your electronics. I’ve already mentioned in my Complete Guide to Self-Care the many benefits and importance of unplugging from the internet and your phone: it allows you to focus on yourself, to focus on the present and to escape the overflow of information that drains you mentally and emotionnaly. Personally, I love doing that before sleeping, it allows me to sleep faster and better. During that time I unplug, I do my skincare routine, journal, read a little bit, water my plants and play with my cat. It’s a couple of hours during the day that I love to cherish!

Count your blessings

The next habit I find particularly helpful to have a good night sleep is to count my blessings, so to list all of the things I am grateful for or that I am happy to have in my life. Taking the habit to do that really helps you to be more content with what you have and helps you become more optimistic and happy. Moreover, I often have anxiety attacks before sleeping so that really helps too.

Make your room look calm and clean

The fourth tip to get a good night’s sleep is to arrange your room in order to make it look calm and clean. I don’t know if it’s just me but my mind cannot rest if I sleep in a messy room. Changing your old sheets into clean ones and making your room feel as cozy and calm as possible by lighting candles, turning on an oil diffuser and playing calming music, can really calm your mind and help you sleep in the best atmosphere. Personally, I love doing that while completing my skincare routine and reading my book. It always makes me feel relaxed!

Follow a self-care routine

This brings me to my fifth point and that is to follow a self-care routine. Self-care stands for taking care of your metal, emotional and physical self. It’s all about putting you on a pedestal and doing something FOR YOU. At night, I love following a routine that puts me in the best possible mind set because it allows me to sleep better, faster and stops me from having anxiety attacks (which is my worst nightmare). Following a self-care routine at night can look like that: taking a bath, applying body cream, following your skincare routine, lightting candles, playing calm music, reading a book, journaling and so forth. Whatever makes you happy before sleeping can work!

Follow skincare routine

Finally, the last tip to get a good night sleep is to follow a skincare routine. Just the feeling of a clean and hydrated skin makes me feel good and puts me in a peaceful mindset before sleeping. Following a skincare routine can definitely be part of your self-care routine because it’s still taking care of your self, in some way. On another note, your skincare routine does not have to be so complicated and elaborated. In fact, mine is so simple and fast but it’s still as effective and still makes me feel good. I love taking care of my skin, it automatically boosts my self-confidence!

Great tips, Joy! I’ve always struggled with insomnia, I find having a set routine for winding down really helps (as does a good night time tea!) Hope you had a wonderful christmas xx

wish i could do these on 2021. going home after work is just like a huge slump of tiredness and burnout that i just want to sleep and escape and forget about night routines.

ugh I can totally imagine. and that’s what happens to me when I have long day at work. I usually try to make my “routine” shorter so that I could just go to bed. But other times, I just skip all together and I just go to sleep directly. Thanks for reading and commenting 🤍🤍

Love these tips. I’ve actually been trying to eat earlier and eat smaller dinners recently (apart from last night’s takeaway) and I think I’m finding it better for me in the evening!
