Rare Beauty review

Brand information

“Rare Beauty is breaking down unrealistic standards of perfection.  This is makeup made to feel good in, without hiding what makes you unique—because Rare Beauty is not about being someone else, but being who you are.”

Rare Beauty is a makeup brand owned by singer and actress Selena Gomez that is meant to encourage self-love, self-acceptance and to raise awareness on mental health issues. On top of releasing a makeup line, the brand created a fund and made their mission to raise 100$ million over the next 10 years “to address the gaps in mental health services for underserved communities”.

The sole mission of the brand revolves around mental health and around making an impact on this matter. The brand mentions that they surround themselves with experts in the field to ensure maximum impact.

For their first launch, the brand released an illuminating primer, a foundation, a concealer, a liquid blush, a liquid highlighter, a matte liquid lipstick, a tinted lip balm (7 shades), a black eyeliner, a brow product (8 shades), a setting spray, blotting papers, a sponge and two brushes.

Overall, the brand is cruelty-free and vegan. You can shop the products exclusively at Sephora or Rare Beauty’s official website!

Product information

The foundation retails for 29$ and contains 30ml of product. It comes in 48 shades and I have the shade 190w which is a light-medium shade with golden warm undertones. The brand describes this product as “a weightless foundation with concentrated pigments that feels barely there while providing buildable medium-to-full coverage with a natural finish”.

The blush retails for 20$ and contains 7.5ml of product. It comes in 8 shades (4 with a dewy finish and 4 with a matte finish). I have the shade “Joy” which is a muted peach with a dewy finish. The brand describes the product as “a weightless, long-lasting liquid blush that blends and builds beautifully for a soft, healthy flush”.

The highlighter retails for 22$ and contains 15ml of product. It comes in 8 shades. I have the shade “outshine” which is a true gold. The brand describes this product as “a silky, second-skin liquid highlighter that creates a lasting, soft, and luminous finish”. According to the brand, the finish is supposed to be reflective and luminous yet subtle at the same time.

The liquid lipstick retails for 20$ and contains 3.9ml of product. It comes in 12 shades. I have the shade “brave” which is a muted terracotta shade. According to the brand, this lipstick is “a weightless air-whipped lip cream that hugs lips with rich color and nourishing hydration that gives a soft velvety matte finish”.

Packaging 5/5

These products come in the most aesthetic packaging. I love how neutral and simple they look but at the same time, how they look extremely beautiful. All complexion products come with a doe-foot applicator and the same rounded top, which again, is so aesthetic and unique. The foundation and highlighter come in similar packaging with a soft texture, following the same colors and shape. The blush, on the other hand, has a silver handle, instead of baby pink.

This packaging seems to also be very practical. In fact, it was created to help people who have difficulties handling makeup products which, in my opinion, is amazing and makes Selena’s brand more meaningful and impactful.

The liquid lipstick follows the same vibe as the other products. The whole lipstick has a soft texture and the top part has the same baby pink color whereas the bottom part takes the color of the chosen shade.

Formula 4/5

Concerning the formula of these products, they all perform amazingly well.

The foundation has a gorgeous natural finish, it blends beautifully on the skin and has a decent medium coverage. It does not emphasize any of my dry patches or texture and lasts pretty long. At the end of the day, it did not crease or look cakey whatsoever, it still looked beautiful and dewy!

The blush is actually my least favorite product out of the four but it still performs really well. It has a gorgeous dewy finish, is pretty long-lasting, and gives such a beautiful color to the cheek. In fact, the shade that I chose is so stunning and complements beautifully my skin tone. Nonetheless, it is extremely pigmented and doesn’t blend that easily, to be honest. It actually dries super quickly. I guess this is what makes it long-lasting.

The highlighter has the same consistency as the blush, it’s very liquidy but dries fairly quickly. I find that it blends better than the blush and as for the finish, it looks absolutely stunning and very subtle. It is indeed very luminous and reflective. Personally, I like to pair it with other highlighters to make them pop even more. The shade that I chose looks absolutely stunning on my skin tone and is neither too dark nor too light. It gives this gorgeous golden reflect which I absolutely love!

Finally, the liquid lipstick is, in my opinion, an amplified version of the matte liquid lipstick by NYX Cosmetics. It has exactly the same mousy texture but is more pigmented and more long-lasting. It glides on beautifully on the lips and gives this gorgeous muted color. I really love the velvet finish it gives and how hydrating it feels on the lips. After wearing it for a couple of hours, the color does disappear but it fades out in an amazing way that it does not bother me at all. Concerning the color, the shade that I chose is absolutely stunning and complements beautifully the color of the leaves in Fall.

Conclusion – Rare Beauty review 9/10

To conclude, I really love these products and I am very excited about the brand in general. I definitely will keep using the foundation, the highlighter, and the liquid lipstick. I see myself reaching less for the blush as I don’t really like how fast it dries but I still think it performs wonderfully. In general, I am fairly satisfied with the products and I love what the brand stands for. Moreover, the price is very decent for what you get. However, I don’t think the brand revolutionized the industry with their formulas as Fenty Beauty did.

That’s it for today. I hope you enjoyed reading this Rare Beauty review and if you did, don’t forget to give it a ‘like’ and to subscribe to my mailing list.
