February movie reviews

Harley Quinn : Birds of Prey [2020] 3/5

Birds Of Prey movie review.jpg

“After splitting with the Joker, Harley Quinn joins superheroes Black Canary, Huntress and Renee Montoya to save a young girl from an evil crime lord”

“Bird Of Prey” is the movie that Harley Quinn deserved. The movie is genuinely funny, has a cartoonish style which I highly enjoyed and is so dynamic and full of life. Unlike Suicide Squad, it established well the characters without taking too much off the story and the story develops well to reach the feisty climax. Birds Of prey does tackle some important issues related to sexism and sexual harassment but in a very superficial way. The movie is very much feminist and focuses on women empowerment which I really appreciated. Finally, Birds Of Prey is not an Oscar movie however, I do recommend it because it is extremely fun, and is a mix of Deadpool and John Wick. Also, I really loved how we watched the whole film from Harley’s twisted and unreliable perspective.

Sonic The Hedgehog [2020] 3/5

“After discovering a small, blue, fast hedgehog, a small-town police officer must help it defeat an evil genius who wants to do experiments on it.”

“Sonic The Hedgehog” is your typical commercial movie that revolves around a really cute animal and a hilarious villain. However, the movie is a such a blast and it is fun and highly entertaining. Jim Carrey is hands down amazing as Dr. Robotnik and I couldn’t imagine a better actor to portray this extravagant and fun villain. On another note. the story develops superficially and lacks in character development but the humour is on point and while the jokes are kind of stupid and lame, I did laugh a lot. If you like those type of game-adaptation movies then I really recommend this one, it’s again highly entertaining.

Uncut Gems [2019] 4/5

uncut gems movie review.jpg

“With his debts mounting and angry collectors closing in, a fast-talking New York City jeweler risks everything in hope of staying afloat and alive”

“Uncut Gems” is truly Adam Sandler’s best work so far and made me realize how good of an actor he is because, before that movie, I always found him so lame. The movie has a really intriguing and interesting story that makes you dive into the main character’s insane and messy journey. The movie is extremely deep, genuine and humane that makes you want to beg for clarity and calmness. I also really loved how the story developed in a chaotic way yet managed to stay super coherent. I really recommend this Uncut Gems if you’re looking for a good dramatic, painful and shocking movie!

The Two Popes [2019] 4/5

The two popes movie review.jpg

“Behind Vatican walls, the conservative Pope Benedict XVI and the liberal future Pope Francis must find common ground to forge a new path for the Catholic Church”

“The Two Popes” is a delight movie with an amazing cast and spot-on dialogues! I absolutely loved Anthony Hopkins and Jonathan Pryce together on screen, they have an amazing chemistry. Moreover, the story develops beautifully and contains a few funny moments which I really enjoyed. On top of that, the movie does not try to convert its viewers. It just tried to tell a beautiful story about faith.

5/5: Excellent!

4/5: Very Good

3/5: Good

2/5: Bad

1/5: VERY bad!

That’s it for these mini movie reviews. I hope you enjoyed reading them and if you did, don’t forget to give this post a ‘like’ and to follow my blog.
