Movies I Watched in August 2019 – From worst to best

Hello my pumpkins and happy Friday! Today, I am sharing with you, like every month, my reviews on the movies I watched, rating them from worst to best!

Movies I watched in August 2019 – From Worst to Best

Ready or not [2019] 3/5

ready or not movie review.jpg

“A bride’s wedding night takes a sinister turn when her eccentric new in-laws force her to take part in a terrifying game.”

“Ready Or Not” is a fun movie to watch on a Friday night with some friends. It has everything it takes to make it to a friendly movie night, it is entertaining, brutally wit and bloody. Even though, the imagery is familiar and the scares are soft, the main premise of the story is cute; a game of hide and kill, the kind of games I would play really. Moreover, the violence is so over-the-top that it is laughable, making it a horror/comedy. It does not take itself seriously and that’s what makes it watchable and enjoyable. It’s the kind of movie you’d watch one time but have a blast while watching hence why I recommend it [if you are into these types of films: easy, highly violent and funny].

Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark [2019] 3.5/5

“A group of teens face their fears in order to save their lives.”

Produced and written by Oscar-winner, Guillermo Del Toro, “Scary Stories To Tell In Dark” is both fun and frightful. The story is meaningful and drenches in symbolism [like a lot of Guillermo Del Toro movies – see Pan’s Labyrinth]. It develops well throughout the movie but wraps up a bit too quickly at the end. What stroke me the most though, is how beautifully creepy the monsters are, the makeup is just unbelievable, in a good way. On top of that, the movie is positively terrifying, it is not scary enough to stay there or to chill you to your bones but it is scary enough to give you a good time while watching it. I 100% recommend it if you are looking for a fun Halloween movie to watch with your friends or to just praise the stunning make-up work.

The Guilty [2018] 4/5

The guilty movie review.jpg

“A police officer assigned alarm dispatch duty enters a race against time when he answers an emergency call from a kidnapped woman.”

“The Guilty” is an interesting, intelligently crafted and well-acted danish thriller movie. It literally leaves you at the edge of your seat and makes you question all basic American thriller movies. The story was so meticulously written, it develops well throughout the movie and brilliantly reveals major information about the characters. On top of that, the whole movie is set on this one officer who is on the phone, all of the action is happening on the other side of the phone which we don’t see. It’s just unbelievable how with just one location and one actor [that we see not hear], we were able to feel the tension and the race against time. Moreover, the voice-acting, which plays an important role in this movie, is so genuine and lively. If you want to watch a good thriller movie, I definitely recommend this one!

Once Upon A Time in…Hollywood [2019] 4.5/5

once upon a time in hollywood review.jpg

“A faded television actor and his stunt double strive to achieve fame and success in the film industry during the final years of Hollywood’s Golden Age in 1969 Los Angeles.”

“Once Upon A Time…in Hollywood” was highly anticipated and in my opinion, it did not disappoint. The humor is bitter and on point. The story evolves very well and if you didn’t know it is actually based on true events but Tarantino gave it a little bit of twist. I also love how the two parallel plots just intertwine at the end and I loved the mere touch of violence at the end which is hilarious and amazingly well done. The art direction, the cinematography and camera movement is another thing that I loved in this movie but I guess that’s what expected when the movie is directed by Quentin Tarantino! Finally, the cherry on top is that this movie has seriously the best cast you could ask for, Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio makes a killer duo!

5/5: Excellent!

4/5: Very Good

3/5: Good

2/5: Bad

1/5: VERY bad!
