Hello my pumpkins and happy Sunday!
With summer right around the corner, I wanted to talk to you about cocktail attire/dress code. Dress codes arenât something we discuss a whole lot. But with so many different kinds of formal events, picking the right outfit can be seriously daunting. Nowhere is this more true than for cocktail events.

So, I thought Iâd put together a few pertinent doâs and donâts of cocktail attire for the ladies. Some tips may seem pretty obvious, but others might be ones youâd never have considered.
If you have a special formal event or cocktail party coming up, I think these tips will come in very handy.
Tip 1 – Avoid wearing revealing items. Keep your necklines and hemlines appropriate.
This is an excellent rule of thumb to keep in mind. Never, ever wear something you wouldnât want your teachers or boss to see you in. Remember, a cocktail party is a formal event, so aim to keep your hemlines and necklines modest.
Tip 2 – Never wear jeans. Instead, choose trousers.
It doesnât matter how much you try to dress up denim, you still risk being underdressed for a cocktail party. But you are not obliged to wear a dress either. Tailored trousers can make just as big a statement.
Tip 3 – Ditch the oversize bag and choose an elegant clutch.
Oversize bags are great for daytime use, but they just look sloppy hanging over your shoulder for a formal event. A mini bag or clutch is far more elegant for a cocktail event.
Tip 4 – Donât throw on any old thing and make sure youâre wrinkle-free.
Weâre not talking about anti-aging lotions and potions, but rather wrinkle-free clothing. It doesnât matter what material or colour your outfit is, wrinkles are messy. Use a steamer to quickly get them out.

Tip 5 – Donât over accessorise, rather choose one statement piece.
Never dress up with too many statement accessories. Rather, wear one standout piece that complements your outfit. There are boutiques you can check out for stylish 2019 blue homecoming dressesthat need not much accessorising. Gorgeous dresses in other colours are available as well.
Tip 6 – Avoid the floor-length gown and pick a midi or mini dress.
You can be overly formal when it comes to cocktail parties, so instead of a floor-sweating gown, choose a midi or mini skirt or dress.
Tip 7 – Donât go for flats. Choose to wear heels.
Whether its kitten heels, block heels or even stilettos, formal events call for a little heel lift. Stay away from flats and sneakers.
Tip 8 – Donât let your underwear show. Wear the right garments.
Itâs worth going the extra mile to ensure your shapewear and bra straps arenât noticeable. Even a small detail like that can make or break your formal look.
Tip 9 – Donât sport hair ties on your wrist. Choose a bracelet.
This has got to be an obvious one, right? Ditch the rubber bands around your wrist and choose an elegant, sleek bracelet.

With these nine tips on hand, I’m confident youâll get your cocktail look just right and stand out for all the right reasons.

Cocktail parties are so much fun and you’re so right to not over do the outfit with too many accessories! I think it’s much sexier to show less skin or skin in the right areas too. Great tip post!

Iâm so happy to read this. This is the kind of manual that needs to be given and not the accidental misinformation that is at the other blogs. Appreciate your sharing this greatest doc.
Ohh, cool week! Thanks for sharing that! I think prior to the last âstormâ I went through, I have always felt hopeless during those harder times. But Iâve had some break throughâs and now I understand how this all works. Hard times come but they donât last forever. I can appreciate the harder times now because I know thereâs A LOT to learn during them too!
