Movies I watched in July – From Worst to Best

Hello my pumpkins!

So the title pretty much explains what this post is about; I watched movies at the Cinemas during the month of July and here I am with a set of mini reviews! Sadly, I didn’t get to watch all of the movies I wanted to watch because I am so overwhelmed with work and with the moving out process that I don’t really have time to go out.

Anyhow, keep on reading if you want to know what are the movies you must watch!

Mama Mia! Here We Go Again [2018] 2.5/5

This one takes place 5 years after the events of Mama Mia 1 when Sophie learns even more about the past of her mother.

The Guardian Peter Bradshaw

Something in the sheer relentless silliness and uncompromising ridiculousness of this, combined with a new flavour of self-aware comedy, made me smile in spite of myself”
Let me get this straight, this movie is a pure disappointment, it brings nothing new to the story [Mama Mia 1], the acting is even worse than the first one and the singing feels pushed, means during the whole movie I felt like the characters were waiting for their cue to sing. I do agree that it brought a smile to my face and I did sing along but again, I shouldn’t have excepted better than that, Mama Mia was not supposed to have a sequel and didn’t need a sequel. On another hand, I thought Lily James was fantastic as young Donna, and was able to deliver an accurate representation of who Donna was when she was young and I feel the same way towards young Tanya and young Rosie. I thought they were all amazing.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom [2018] 3/5

After the dinosaurs are threatened by a volcano, Claire and Owen starts a campaign to save them.
Bayona not only nods to the histories of classic monster movies and the legacy of original Jurassic helmer Steven Spielberg; he brings his own experience to bear, treating monsters like actual characters and trapping us in a vast mansion that’s as full of secrets as the site of his breakthrough 2007 film The Orphanage
This movie is cliché in every possible way and was made only because the previous one was a hit but I honestly really enjoyed it. I liked this theme of saving the dinosaurs and treating them like they are innocent animals that deserve life, I really feel like this movie brought me closer to them and made me feel sorry for them. Other than that, the action sequence is of course on point and the movie is very entertaining and stressful, like it is supposed to be. I think this movie is more thoughtful and interesting than its predecessor but it brings nothing new to the dinosaur saga and is not memorable.
Ocean’s Eight [2018] 3/5

Debbie Ocean gathers a crew of women to attempt a heist at the Met Gala.
Ocean’s 8, at its most endearing, is a slick, glamorous romp that makes you yearn for three more hours with its impossibly charismatic crew.
I really enjoyed this movie, it is so entertaining  that I did not feel the 2 hours pass by, it is fun and some scenes are very memorable. It is a reboot of the old Ocean’s movies except with women, the plot doesn’t change much from them however I think it’s the actresses that make this movie truly enjoyable, they have an amazing connection and dynamism, I just really loved seeing them all together and I loved the fact that all of the main characters are women and that they are portrayed positively as strong and smart women. My favorite of them all, was Anne Hathaway, her performance was truly amazing and she portrayed her role so well. In general, this movie made me want to organize a heist
The Incredibles 2 [2018] 4.5/5

Mr. Incredible is left to take care of  his three super-hero kids while Elastigirl is out saving the world.
It would have been a relief if, 14 years later, Incredibles 2 had simply met expectations. Instead, it exceeds them.
This sequel is a pure success and an amazing addition to the first one. The plot is so neatly written, and has some really funny and memorable moments, the characters are very well-delopped and feel very human. Unlike some other super-hero animated movies, I did feel like that one was more slow-paced and long but nothing that made me feel bored. Moreover, one of the things I love the most in the Incredibles is the family aspect which is stronger in this one than in its predecessor.
I waited 14 years for this sequel but it was definitely worth the wait because it is truly one of best animated movies out there and very different than your usual super-hero movie.

5/5: Excellent!

4/5: Very Good

3/5: Good

2/5: Bad

1/5: VERY bad!

That’s it for this movie review. I hope you enjoyed reading and if you did, don’t forget to give this post a ‘like’ and to follow my blog.

Like you I also missed out on quite a number of films that I had wanted to see this month, and unfortunately both Jurrasic World and Ocean’s Eight were on my list but I didn’t catch them. Oh well. Eventually I will. Still glad you got to see quite a number of films in the end 😊

I’ve heard awful things about the Mama Mia sequel but I still want to see it because I loved the first one. I totally agree with your rating on the Oceans 8 reboot. I really enjoyed it and am glad I went but it dipped below excellent for me. 3/5 is totally spot on.

💞 Thanks for sharing the reviews. I did not think Mamma Mia was going to be great because musical sequels are best the first time. Now I am definitely going to see Ocean’s Eight. I was 50/50 on watching it. xx

I’ve been to the cinema more and I have been to see The Incredibles and Mamma Mia! Have to say I loved both of them but The Incredibles definitely exceeded my expectations too! x

Incredible 2 was excellent! Well worth the wait. I wanted to see so many more movies this summer, but it just didn’t happen. I was in a movie review group in college with Larry Munson, the voice of the Georgia Bulldogs. We went every weekend and reviewed them on the radio. So much fun!
