Hello my pumpkins!
So for today I am sharing with you trip to the French alps, I went there for work with my sister but it was so much fun. We got to visit two cities: Chambéry which is an hour away from Lyon and Méribel which is located in the French alps.
Before diving into this post, don’t forget to check out my previous post which is a review on the movie ‘Loving Vincent‘.
Chambéry
We got to stay in this gorgeous small city for 2 days only, the reason why we had to stay there is because we had a Ski exhibition called ‘Grand Ski’. We had lots of meetings with hotels, ski schools, transportation companies and ski resorts. If you guys didn’t know my dad has a travel agency in Lebanon and he often gets invited to fam trips but of course, he usually send us, his daughters [plus, my sister works with him on a daily basis, I only manage his Social Media]
Oki now let’s talk about the city itself. We were able to visit it on Tuesday and we really liked it. The architecture is gorgeous, it’s not too cold [same temperature as Paris], it’s pretty quiet and there are a lot of great shops to go shopping [Gallerie Lafayette]. We had lunch at ‘Savoyard’, they have really good Fondue and it’s not too expensive so if you get to visit Chamery I really recommend this restaurant!
Chambery is a pretty city but honestly it’s not worth visiting for more than 2 days.
Méribel
Meribel is of course the star of the trip. Me and my sister fell in love with this city, it’s taken straight out of a Christmas movie, it is gorgeous.
I really loved the fact that ALL the houses/apartments/hotels/buildings are made the same way, with wood, not more than 4 levels and with gable roofs. The city is also based on the ski slopes, what I mean by that is that wherever you go, you see slopes and you can easily access them. Of course, Meribel is also good for non-skiers, you can go snowshoeing, dog sledding, horse sledding, partying [literally], sledding and much more.
We arrived in this beautiful town on Wednesday night, we had time to have dinner and see the city by night [it looks amazing with the Christmas decoration].
On Thursday, we went skiing. Meribel has 600 km of slopes and is linked to the slopes of Courchevel and Les Menuires because it is the heart of the 3 valleys. So, you can literally ski in the 3 valleys and pay only 50 euros.
Meribel is amazing for ski beginners, the ski monitors can speak several languages including English, they are certified and there are ski slopes especially for beginners and for intermediates, it’s not only for professionals. Moreover, they got very creative when creating the slopes because each one of them is different and some of them include fun activities [such as going under tunnels]. By the way, the ski resort is so big that even if you ski everyday for a week, you’ll never do the same slope twice.
At 1pm, we went to have lunch at La Foulie Douce which is an awesome place to eat and to party. We got to see an amazing live performance and we got to dance like crazy. Plus, the view from up there is breathtaking and it’s right on the slopes. If you get the chance to ski in Meribel, GO THERE!!!! [You don’t have to ski to go to that place]
In the afternoon, we had to visit a few hotels but at night we got to do sledding and oh my god, who knew sledding would be that intense. It is so much fun but it is hard. And, it’s not sledding on a simple slope, no, the slope is very long and has a lot of turns. I actually fell a million times but it was fun.
After dinner at La Chaudane [really cool place to have dinner], we went at the local night club, ‘Les Saints-Pères’. It was really fun, the music and the alcohol were good.
On Friday, we went to visit a few more hotels/apartments//chalets then we went snowshoeing in the forest until we reached a hidden traditional restaurant. This restaurant serves really good food and the decoration is on point so I definitely recommend this restaurant. By the way, you don’t have to walk 20 minutes to reach the restaurant, you can simply go by horse sledding, it’s cheap and it’s fun [the horse is very well treated by the way, so don’t worry about that, you are not encouraging animal mistreatment]
Later during the day, we continued our hotel excursion then we had free time to walk around the city so me and my sister went to buy some souvenirs and ate some spanish churros.
At night, we went to have dinner in a private chalet, then we headed back to Lyon cause our flight was the next day at 6am.
If you really want a snowy destination, I really advice you to go to Méribel, it’s a gorgeous city, you can find really good hotels at a small price, there are a lot of activities in the snow and you can go party. If you want more information about the accommodations, plane tickets or activities, you can call my dad’s travel agency at + 961 1 294 944.
And by the way, as a Lebanese who often ski in Lebanon, I thought skiing in the Meribel was hell of an experience, I really enjoyed it and I think everyone should experience it.
Stay tuned for a video!
That’s it for today. I hope you enjoyed reading and if you did, don’t forget to give this post a ‘like’ and to follow my blog.
