I, Tonya [2017]

Based on true events, ‘I, Tonya’ was directed by Craig Gillespie and follows the story of the American ice Skater, “Tonya Harding”, in the 90s. Tonya becomes one of the most iconic Ice Skater in the world until her ex-husband intervenes into her life and puts into doubt her future.

This is probably Margot Robbie’s best motion picture and I really recommend everyone to watch it.

Starting with the story, I think the plot was very well-written and developed, I like how the writers incorporated interviews and made the story look like a documentary. Actually, the movie was written in a way that keeps you guessing, that makes you want to know more and that stresses you [Mainly because of the interviews: the characters being interviewed sometimes talk about something before the event happens]

Moreover, even though the movie covers most of Tonya’s career as an ice skater, I didn’t feel like they rushed the information or that they missed important details of her life. In the contrary, those 2 hours were really well filled, covered major events and each scene told us more about her life and about her as a character.

Margot Robbie’s performance is what impressed me the most, her acting is just mesmerizing, I think this is her best role so far. Her performance as Tonya is so believable and genuine, she gives great depth to her character and makes her come to life. She also made us love Tonya despite her many flaws [for me at least].

I also really loved the editing and filming style, I think both are true to the 80s/90s while being very modern. Furthermore, the movie is a great portrayal of this era and represents well the fashion and makeup trends of the time.

In conclusion, ‘I, Tonya’ is a must-watch, it is fun and entertaining yet very dramatic and dark at the same time.

That’s it for this review. Don’t forget to give this post a ‘like’ and to follow my blog, if you’ve enjoyed reading it.
