A Cure For Wellness [2016]

‘A Cure For Wellness’ is a fantasy/horror film directed by Gore Verbinski. It tells the story of an ambitious young executive who is sent at a ‘wellness center’ to retrieve the CEO of his company. During his journey, he starts suspecting that the ‘cure’, given to the patients, is not as “curing” as it may seem.

Starting with this review, I strongly believe that this film deserves more than just a 47/100 on Metascore because this is an amazing film directed by an amazing director and so underrated, so please give it at least a 70/100.

I am gonna start this review by praising the art direction and the cinematography. The visuals of this film are just stunning and breath-taking [you can check the images below]. I loved how Gore Verbinski used a lot of reflections in his shots – this film is about water after all.  The cool toned colour palette beautifully portrayed the mood of the film and the composition of each shots was really well-thought of. Moreover, the location is amazing, Verbinski really highlighted the beautiful mountains of the Swiss Alps.

Moving on to the plot. I think the story is very intriguing and very odd. It builds up well to the intense climax and the characters develops really well throughout the story, we get to discover more about them and their objectives in the film. Nevertheless, I don’t feel like Verbinski was able to finish well his story. At the end of the film, I felt like some things were still very vague, there was still some unanswered questions. I just felt like the story was not complete and to be honest with you, the ending was very weird, but bad weird.

Concerning the acting, I think the performances of the actors/actresses are very believable and genuine. They conveyed really well the main idea that that they are ‘not well’. I loved the performances of Dane Dehaan and Jason Isaacs. I think they both played their role very well. It’s a very satisfying cast that deserves more recognition.

Honestly, this film doesn’t feel 2h30mins because the story kept things very interesting, and kept me at the edge of my seat the whole time. You just keep watching the film because you want to know what’s going to happen and things just keep getting intense and strange in that film.

To conclude, I think this film is worth your money and your time, so if you like fantasy/horror films, you should definitely watch it. Overall, I would rate it a 80 because the story development is not perfect but overall, the movie is extremely interesting and original.

That’s it for today. If you found this movie review to be useful/interesting, please don’t forget to give it a ‘like’ and to follow my blog.

Sounds good. Initially I thought you were starting to tell the story of Dracula by Bram Stoker. Lol

It’s a great movie even though the story is not complete and confusing especially at the end. Thank you dear xx ☺️

Oh, I really don’t like it when they leave movies with vague endings 😩
But I will watch it anyways haha!

The ending is not vague but they just didnt explain enough, so like I finished the movie, i still felt confused and i still felt like there were things I didnt understand 😛 but yes watch it anyways cause it’s worth it!!!

I really want to watch this, but not a fan of jumpy films, so I haven’t maned up enough yet haha! x

It’s not jumpy don’t worry. For a horror film, it’s not scary at all.

I was so exited for this movie and the first 2 hours were incredible but for me the last half am hour really spoiled the build up 😰I was expecting it to be my fave movie of the year but i just found the ending a little confused in contrast with the rest of the movie! still definitely worth a watch though! Xxx

Yes very true!!! The story doesnt feel complete and a lot of things were left unexplained!!

I just wish they had stuck with the creepy eerie theme instead of deviating into a creature film!

        • September 3, 2017 / 8:20 pm

I didnt mind the creature thing [it was weird tho] The only thing i minded is that they didnt explain enough and I wish Verbinski did because i loved the story

I personally found this film really disturbing, mainly because of the creatures and the teeth situation. The location was amazing though, finished with amazing cinematography!

    • September 4, 2017 / 4:37 pm

Yes it is disturbing, it personally doesn’t bother me, in the contrary, i love disturbing movies 😛

I really enjoyed the movie in the first part (and the scenery is just stunning), but I was so disappointed by the ending and how they wrapped the story up. The evil smirk at the end really cracked me up though haha

    • September 9, 2017 / 7:29 pm

It’s not really the end though, there will be chapter 2! Yes the evil smirk hahahah, i love Pennywise 😍👌🏻

Sorry my wordpress got messed up and write that this comment was for my other movie review. Anyways, yes, i didnt like the ending too, very confusing and the story didnt feel complete. And actually, i didnt understand the evil smirk, like did he become one of them?

      • September 9, 2017 / 9:27 pm

Ho i see, no problem haha
Yeah the evil smirk was really confusing, I guess he did become one of them in the end? Who knows

        • September 9, 2017 / 9:43 pm

Yeah maybe! I love Dane’s acting though. I thought he was amazing in the film

          • September 9, 2017 / 9:49 pm

I agree, his acting was really good! I didn’t like the girl’s acting as much though, but he elevated the whole thing for sure
