In 2015, Kylie Jenner launches her first line of lip products and releases her three first lip kits [each lip kit comes with a liquid lip stick and a lip liner] which completely sold out within the first few minutes: Dolce K, Candy K and True Brown K. Months after months, She starts releasing new lip shades and comes out with other makeup products such as eyeshadows, highlighters, blushes and eye liners.
I am personally not a fan of the Kardashians in general but I admire Kylie Jenner’s hard work in creating her own makeup brand. Nevertheless, I never wanted to buy any of her products because first, it’s too expensive with the shipping [I don’t live anywhere near the states] and second, I was never really interested.
On my 19th birthday, my friend offered me two matte lip kits, ‘Dolce K’ [shade in the middle] and ‘Mary Jo K’ [shade on the right], as a gift; I was surprisingly happy and very impressed by the formula and color [my favorite is Mary Jo K. It’s a stunning hot red and the photo below is not doing it justice].
To begin with, the packaging is gorgeous and is nice to keep in your makeup collection: It’s so classy and I really love the black lip gloss drips, it’s so cool. I also love the fact that the pencil is matte black and the cap of the pencil is shiny black.
Now let’s move on to the formula; they both apply so smoothly and evenly, you don’t even have to dip twice to get a full coverage; the matte liquid lip stick and the lip liner are both very pigmented and very easy to apply. I also feel like they make your lips look bigger.
Here are the two shades on me [On the first photo I am wearing Mary Jo K and on the second photo I am wearing Dolce K]
Although this is true for ‘Dolce K’ and ‘Mary Jo K’, it is not the case for ‘Leo’ [Shade on the left]: unlike the two other matte lip kits, ‘Leo’ is streaky and does not apply evenly. Basically, I don’t think the formula for dark shades is on point [I haven’t tried ‘Vixen’, ‘True Brown K’ or ‘Kourt K’. If you have, please let me know your opinion on them].
Like any other matte liquid lip stick, these are very drying so make sure to moisturize your lips before applying them. However, they are very long lasting and you do not need to do any touch-ups later during the day.
Below is the swatches of the 3 liquid lipsticks and lip liners.
The lip kit retails for 29$, and even though I like the formula and the packaging, I don’t think it’s worth it. Colourpop cosmetics sell matte liquid lip sticks with a similar formula for only 6$ and lip liners for 6$ as well. Hence, if you think that the Kylie Cosmetics’ lip products are unreachable, you can order from Colourpop Cosmetics.
